\n\tMariah Carey<\/a> is shedding new light on her longtime feud with Eminem<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a segment of \u201cPlead the Fifth\u201d on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen<\/em> on Wednesday (Oct. 1), the iconic singer was asked whether their drama began when the superstar rapper allegedly asked her to play his mother in his 2002 autobiographical film 8 Mile<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFrom what I heard there is truth to that,\u201d Carey told<\/a> host Andy Cohen. \u201cBut I don\u2019t think that he actually\u2026 well, who knows who approached who.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCohen pushed further, asking, \u201cBut did that ignite the beef?\u201d Carey responded vaguely, \u201cUm, no. \u201cI mean, maybe. It depends what he\u2019s thinking. I really don\u2019t care. Like, whatever he\u2019s said, then I\u2019m that, fine. Not really. But that\u2019s a rap lyric.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this summer, music producer Damion \u201cDamizza\u201d Young \u2014 who began working with Carey in the late 1980s \u2014 claimed on the TFU<\/em> podcast<\/a> that he introduced Eminem to the pop superstar. Young claimed Eminem wanted Carey to portray his alcoholic mother in 8 Mile<\/em>, despite being just four years younger than her. Carey declined the role, which eventually went to Kim Basinger.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHer insecurities kicked in big time,\u201d Young said, also implying that the two later had a romantic relationship.<\/p>\n

\n\tEminem has made numerous lyrical references over the years to an alleged relationship with Carey, dating back to 2001. His 2002 album, The Eminem Show<\/em>, featured multiple mentions of the rumored romance, particularly on tracks like \u201cWhen the Music Stops\u201d and \u201cSuperman.\u201d Carey, however, has repeatedly denied that a relationship ever took place.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI hung out with him, I spoke to him on the phone. I think I was probably with him a total of four times. And I don\u2019t consider that dating somebody,\u201d she told Larry King in a 2002 interview.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2009, Carey appeared to take a playful jab at Eminem in the music video for her song \u201cObsessed,\u201d<\/a> where she dressed as a male stalker, a move widely interpreted as a response to the rapper\u2019s lyrics.<\/p>\n
