\n\tOn the track \u2014 which dropped Friday (Oct. 3) along with the rest of the pop star\u2019s new The Life of a Showgirl <\/em>album \u2014 Swift explores how she prefers to have friends who have been \u201ccancelled\u201d by the public at some point, just like she feels<\/a> she has been at different times in her career. Right before the chorus, she sings, \u201cDid you girlboss too close to the sun?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNow, the Icarus-inspired lyric could very well be just another one of the 14-time Grammy winner\u2019s infinite signature turns of phrase \u2014 but it also happens to bear a striking resemblance to something a certain conservative commentator said back in January. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn a video<\/a> on her YouTube channel about Swift\u2019s supposed involvement in Blake Lively\u2019s lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, Owens repeatedly said that the singer and her friend were \u201cgirl bosses who flew too close to the sun.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a TikTok<\/a> promoting the episode, the podcaster doubled down. \u201cThis story is going to be remembered as \u2018girl boss flew too close to the sun,’\u201d she said in the clip.<\/p>\n

\n\tBillboard <\/em>has reached out to Swift\u2019s rep for comment.<\/p>\n

\n\tFans have been wondering ever since hearing \u201cCancelled!\u201d which of Swift\u2019s friends she may have been referring to on the song, with some theorizing that Brittany Mahomes \u2014 who is married to Patrick Mahomes \u2014 might be the subject. But if the parallel to Owens\u2019 video is any indication, the \u201ccancelled\u201d friend in question might just be Lively. If it is, the song\u2019s subject matter would track with the fact that the Gossip Girl <\/em>alum\u2019s lawsuit revolves around allegations that Baldoni orchestrated a media campaign to turn the public against her after the pair wrapped filming on It Ends With Us<\/em>, which he denies.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe ongoing suit is expected to go to trial in 2026. And while Baldoni\u2019s legal team has pushed for Swift to be deposed for the case \u2014 having previously accused Lively of using the singer\u2019s star power to pressure him on creative choices for It Ends With Us<\/em> \u2014 a judge ruled against it <\/a>in September. <\/p>\n
